In ancient times, because of illiteracy , one used to have his own symbol as a substitute for signature. There were different kinds of personal seals , some were made in stones, silver or gold metals and semi precious stones. The engraving on seal could be a name or a phrase or an animal. The use of seal was a device to seal letters with the use of hot wax with the seal embossed on.
